New Workshop

I moved the aeroplane to a new workshop, where I can now fit the wings on, and then attach and shape the foam to the strakes, before completing the fibreglass repairs.

Pre-Repair Inspection

My LAA inspector popped around earlier to take a look at the aeroplane, to make sure that the repairs so far have been done properly. This is the inspection before I begin the fibreglass repairs proper, as he needs to check that the area I’m repairing in is OK, and that I won’t be covering up any nasty surprises. In short, everything looks good, and I can begin my repairs.

LAA Response (2024-02-13)

I previously sent this to the LAA:

LAA Necessary Paperwork

Following some communication a while ago with the LAA, this is what I’ll need to provide/demonstrate at a minimum:

Panel Design

My panel design is just about finished. I’m left-handed, and seeing as the Cozy is controlled via side-stick, and my ability to write right-handed is terrible, I decided to set the cockpit up with the pilot in the right seat. The G3X Touch has a reversionary mode, so I can put a toggle switch by the MFD to let it quickly change to PFD mode.

Landing Light & Taxi Light

The Cozy has a manual landing light that drops out from the belly of the aircraft. The bulb had blown, so I started looking at LED alternatives. They’re more energy-efficient, and much, much brighter.

Avionics: Transponder

Given the CAA Conspicuity Rebate, I decided to buy the transponder early (very early!) as it’ll save £250 on the purchase price.

Engine Inspection

Sam at Croft Farm carried out an inspection of my Lycoming O-360-A3A engine. It… definitely needs some work, but based on a call with him, it’s reasonable for an engine of its age that hasn’t flown in so long.

Aeroplane moved to Croft Farm

The aircraft was moved from Gloucestershire Airport to Defford/Croft Farm. Given Covid, it’ll undergo some bodywork - really just getting the aircraft into primer. This will be a very slow process for a while, as the guy carrying out this work for me is also busy with various other tasks.

Avionics: Nose Lift

Purchased a Wilhelmson EZ Noselift. This will replace the seized-up manual (crank) nose lift. Given that the riskiest phases of flight are take-off and landing, being able to flick a switch, as opposed to leaning forward and spending many many seconds cranking the nose gear of an aircraft that’s just taken off, watching climb speed, climb rate, etc.

New Registration

G-OGJS is becoming G-RETH. CAA paperwork submitted.
